The deadline for qualifying candidates to turn in required paperwork for the upcoming August election was Thursday, April 7.
Here is a look at Morgan County office holders that will seek election in the August election. Only one county wide office holder has a challenger as Mark Keck will face Brian Langley for the County Executive’s race.
The following office holders will run unopposed: Trustee Cindi Jones…Circuit Court Clerk Marla Hines…County Clerk Cheryl Collins…General Sessions Judge Mike Davis…Register of Deeds Sandy Dalton…Road Superintendent Joe Henry Miller…and Sheriff Wayne Potter.
Doug Garrett and Phil Vespie will face off in the Wartburg Mayor race.
Here are the Morgan County Commissioner candidates for districts that have opposition. 3 will be elected from each district:
District 1- George Davis, Terry (Bear) Jackson, Randy Roberts and Steve Walls
District 2- David Currier, Earl Headrick, Vera Scarborough and Fred Snow
District 3- David Hennessee, Vernon Justes, Kenneth Morgan and Bill Shannon
District 4- Robert “Bubba” Gibson, Susie Kreis, Mike Raiford and Douglas Vespie
District 5- Melissa Bryant, Gary Kennedy, Mike McGrath, Rick Plank and Jerry Zorsch
District 6- Janet Adkisson, David Hamby, Debbie Lively, Eli Anderson and Arnold Phillips
Jonathan Dagley and Michael Ledbetter will oppose each other in the District 3 school board race.
In the House of Representative’s contest…John Mark Windle will run for re-election as an independent and his Republican opposition will be Ed Butler, John Hayes or Michael Swisher.
