Morgan County Executive Brian Langley is calling on Morgan County residents to fill out the 2020 United States Census.
“I didn’t really realize how important it is until I got into office, but it’s very important that people fill it out,” Langley said.
“It’s important for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is they take those numbers and that’s how we’re represented. Plus, it comes into play with grant funding from federal and state funds. We need everybody participating; let’s get those numbers up.”
As of July 23, Morgan County was behind both the state and national average in census responses with 56.4 percent. The national average is 62.4 percent and the state average is 61.7 percent.
Morgan County’s three cities are also below the state and national average. Oakdale leads the way at 54.5 percent, followed by Wartburg at 51.3 percent and Sunbright at 48.7 percent.
Langley says it won’t take much time to help Morgan County close the gap.
“It’s very simple to fill out,” he said. “You can go online and it takes about five minutes or less. If you need help, you can call our office and we’ll be more than happy to walk you through it.”
