WECO News: Tuesday, Aug. 14th – Roane County Death Being Treated As Homicide

The death of a Roane County man whose body was found on Sunday in Kingston is being treated as a homicide.

According to TBI spokesperson Kristin Helm, an agent was dispatched to 138 Hart Orchard Road in Kingston at the request of the Roane County Sheriff’s office and the District Attorney.

TBI has not released information on a cause of death but did say an autopsy has been ordered.

Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development Karla Davis announced Tennessee’s unemployment rate for June increased to 8.1 percent, up from the May revised rate of 7.9 percent. The national unemployment rate for June 2012 was 8.2 percent, unchanged from the May rate.

Morgan County saw an increase from 9.9 % in May to 11 % in June. Both Fentress and Roane Counties saw a slight increase as well. Scott County has the state’s highest unemployment rate at 18.5 %.

Morgan County Schools are participating in a program that promotes, supports and recognizes positive behavior in students.

Petros-Joyner Principal Donna Jerden talks about the program at her school:

JERDEN: “Coming up on Aug. 17th we’re planning a carnival. Our school’s part of School-wide Positive Behavior Support System. Called SWPBS, other schools in Morgan County participate as well. We’re going to have a carnival on Aug. 17th during the day for our students and then open in the afternoon from 3:30 to 6 for the community to kick-off our positive behavior program.”
