The Appalachia Resale Store in Sunbright has announced that it is in need of items to sale. Proceeds from the Resale Store are used to help build Habitat homes for low income families. The store accepts any type of household items, appliances, building supplies and good clothing. Those with items to donate, but unable to deliver themselves may call 628-2081 for assistance.

Historic Rugby has announced a special Valentine’s Day Dinner on Saturday, February 11th. The menu will include a choice between 3 main entrees: Stuffed Chicken Breast with Cranberry Herb Stuffing; Char-Grilled Rib Eye Steak Served with Herb Roasted Potatoes; or Pan Seared Salmon Served with Wild Rice. The Atlanta Braves have announced dates and times for appearances in East Tennessee. The professional baseball team’s caravan will roll into Chattanooga for a Q and A session and autograph signing on Thursday February 9th from 11:30 to 1:30pm. The session will take place at Taco Mac. Then later in the day, the caravan is scheduled to visit the Knoxville Academy Sports and Outdoor from 4 to 5:30 for an autograph signing. Everyone is invited to attend.

In Sports, high school teams around the area had games Friday night. Here are those scores. In girls action, Oakdale was a winner at home against Sunbright, 45-24, Wartburg got by Oneida 45-44, and Oliver Springs defeated Jellico 67-50. In boys play, Sunbright defeated Oakdale 49-33, Jellico got the win against Oliver Springs, 54-46, and Wartburg wins a big one at Oneida, 73-62. With the win, Wartburg now currently sits atop the district 4-A standings.

Also in sports, the UT Men’s basketball team got a huge win yesterday against the defending national champion UConn Huskies, 60-57. UT led by double digits late, but a fury of three pointers brought the Huskies within 3 in the end. UT newcomer Jarnell Stokes scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Vols.

The Lady Vols have a big game tonight against a different Big East foe. Pat Summitt’s squad is on the road tonight to take on second ranked Notre Dame. Tipoff is set for 7pm, but WECO FM will have pregame coverage beginning at 6:30.

You know those times you start bleeding, but have no idea you scratched yourself in the first place? This is kind of like that. A Chicago man injured himself while working in his workshop — but didn’t realize it until the following day. Dante Autullo had been working in his workshop when a nailgun recoiled near his head.

Not feeling anything, he carried on. It was only when he started suffering nausea the following day that he went to the hospital and doctors took an X-ray. The X-ray revealed a three-inch nail had entered his brain, but because the brain doesn’t have pain-sensitive nerves he didn’t feel a thing. After undergoing an operation to remove the remove the nail Autullo is now recovering well.
