Last week Morgan County Executive Becky Ruppe met with TDOC maintenance employees, BPR consultants and representatives from Cannon and Cannon to look at the feasibility of reusing the Brushy sewer system for a regional jail and possibly the Petros community. The county recently received a grant from Rural Development for $25,000 to be matched by $5,000 to do a feasibility study on the Brushy Mountian sewer plant.
The Brushy sewer plant is a key component in preserving the historical facility and Morgan County Executive Becky Ruppe is willing to fight for it. "There have been times that I have almost given up on the reuse of Brushy but something down deep inside makes me keep fighting. I think it could be the economic driver for the community and create jobs for all of Morgan County."
Executive Ruppe and representatives from BPR and Cannon and Cannon are in Nashville today to meet with TDOC Engineer Tom Robinson on Monday morning in Nashville to go over plans. "One of our main concerns is a piece of equipment that staff says is planned to go to Bledsoe County. This piece of equipment is worth $200,000 and we don't need it to leave if we can help it. If the state wants to help us reuse Brushy then we desperately need their assistance in helping preserve what is left."
The Tennessee National Guard’s Volunteer Training Site in

Newport, Kingsport and Covington. Newport and Kingsport are due to
land at the Guard training site at approximately 10:30 a.m. Covington is

reach Tennessee Wednesday, July 21. Springfield and Clarksville are due
to roll in to Smyrna on buses at approximately 1 p.m. Henderson and
Crossville will be combined aboard C-130 aircraft, with the first plane
due to land at 11 a.m. and the second, at 2:30 p.m.
Knoxville, New Tazewell, and Lobelville units are to arrive in Smyrna
Friday, July 23, but no arrival times have yet been released.
At present, the Tennessee Guardsmen are undergoing out-processing at
Camp Shelby, Miss. It will be completed at Smyrna, after which soldiers
will be transported by bus to their respective hometown armories.
