Norfolk Southern Corporation has closed Coal Hill Road in Glen Mary at the railroad crossing until 2pm today for repairs. The crossing will not be able to be used until the work is completed. Farm Bureau’s Food-Check-Out Week began Sunday. This week, farmer and rancher members will focus on spreading the word about how consumers can stretch their grocery dollars with healthy, nutritious food. But that’s not all this week is about. Farm Bureau is also collecting certain items to distribute to those less fortunate, according to Melissa Winegar.

These items may be deposited in orange bins at the Save a Lot, Darnell’s Food Market and Farm Bureau Office locations in Wartburg. Farm Bureau is also working with the Ronald McDonald House.

Morgan County Trustee Cindi Jones has announced that her office will have extended hours as tax time gets closer. This week, the office will be open from 8 to 5 each weekday and 8-12 on Saturday. Jones also says that if you need to see the tax assessor before paying your taxes, you will need to do so before February 29^th.

In sports, the boys district 4-A basketball tournament concluded last night. In the consolation game, it was Jellico edging Sunbright 59-57. The Championship game was close as well, with Wartburg earning a 5^th District title in 10 years, defeating Oneida 58-55. All 4 teams that played last night will advance to the region tournament.

The girls from district 4-A found out their opponents last night, as the district 3-A tournament concluded. Oakdale will have to travel to Grace Christian, Oneida will go to Tellico Plains, Oliver Springs will host Greenback and Wartburg will host Rockwood. These games will take place this Friday at 7. WECO will be on hand for the Wartburg, Rockwood game.

In other sports news, the University of Tennessee mens basketball team will get back to the court for the first time since a disappointing loss in Alabama. The Vols take on Ol’ Miss tonight. The Vol Network’s pregame coverage can be heard on WECO-FM beginning at 6:30. Tipoff is at 7.

And finally, being cautious is a good thing, most of the time. A woman in the UK received a package from Germany and was suspicious since, she said, she didn’t know anyone in Germany. She took the package to the local police station, set it on a chair, and told the desk officer that she thought it might be a bomb. The building was evacuated while the bomb squad removed it to a safe location and opened it by exploding a small charge next to it. The contents? A family photo album sent by a relative. Police remind the public that if you think a package is a bomb, don’t bring it to the police. Leave it where it’s at and they’ll come to you.
