Breast Cancer Awareness week passed us by about 3 months ago, but that doesn’t mean that the awareness should go away, according to Betty Redmon. That’s why a Pink Out basketball game has been scheduled for this Friday, when Wartburg hosts Sunbright.

Redmon says everyone who plans to attend the game should wear pink in support of awareness. Information will be handed out at the door regarding breast cancer. Redmon is a survivor, and says women should always check for signs.

The girl’s pink out game will be held at 6:30 this Friday, and the boys game will follow shortly thereafter.
State Senator Ken Yager (R- Harriman) has received an award of appreciation from the Tennessee Telecommunications Association for his efforts to protect rural consumers. The certificate of appreciation was awarded to Yager in his office in Nashville as the Tennessee General Assembly began its third week of legislative action.
The Tennessee Telecommunications Association is an industry trade organization formed for the purpose of promoting telecommunications service in Tennessee. Currently, the Association is comprised of eighteen Tier I members employing approximately 1,000 people and serving approximately 240,000 access lines.
The US Army Field Band is coming to Wartburg on Tuesday, February 28th. The band travels the nation performing in front of crowds big and small. This event is free to the public and tickets can be picked up by visiting the offices of Highland Telephone and Highland Communications.
The Appalachia Resale Store in Sunbright has announced that it is in need of items to sale. Proceeds from the Resale Store are used to help build Habitat homes for low income families. The store accepts any type of household items, appliances, building supplies and good clothing. Those with items to donate, but unable to deliver themselves may call 628-2081 for assistance.
The Atlanta Braves have announced dates and times for appearances in East Tennessee. The professional baseball team’s caravan will roll into Chattanooga for a Q and A session and autograph signing on Thursday February 9th from 11:30 to 1:30pm. The session will take place at Taco Mac. Then later in the day, the caravan is scheduled to visit the Knoxville Academy Sports and Outdoor from 4 to 5:30 for an autograph signing. Everyone is invited to attend.
In Sports, the Lady Vols will look to bounce back tonight after losing to Notre Dame by the 2nd largest margin in UT’s history. The Lady Vols are on the road in Alabama, to take on the Crimson Time. Pregame coverage can be heard on WECO FM beginning at 8:30. Tip of is at 9.
There is one area high school basketball game tonight. Harriman travels to Grace Christian to take on the Rams.
And finally, Lying to the police is never a good idea. Security at the JC Penney store in a Provo, Utah, mall spotted Leah Efay Davis placing several items in a store bag. They say they watched her leave without paying, stopped her, and found nearly $600 worth of merchandise. Davis claimed to have a valid excuse: she told police she owned the mall. Mall management told police she didn’t.
